The Little Miami Select Women’s Chorale
The Little Miami Select Women’s Chorale was established in 2003, by its present director, Sarah J. Baker, first as an extra-curricular ensemble, until finally being added to the daily schedule in 2005. The ensemble is open by audition for ladies in HS grades 10-12 that have completed at least one year of participation in a choral program. The Little Miami Select Women’s Chorale is in constant demand to perform throughout the community and region, giving close to 40 concerts each year.
Since its beginning, LMSWC has grown to be the premiere performance ensemble at LMHS, earning consistent Superior ratings in OMEA events. The chorale appeared in OMEA Professional Development Conferences (2011/2013) and the 2014 ACDA Central Division Conference, as well as women’s choral festivals at The Ohio State University, University of Cincinnati-College Conservatory of Music, Xavier University, and the University of Pittsburgh.
Maintaining a demanding schedule
Maintaining a demanding schedule throughout the community and as a frequent guest of the Ohio State Capitol, the chorale performed in the Champions Divisions of the 2012 World Choir Games in Cincinnati (where the chorale also served as the workshop demonstration choir for Jennifer Tham’s session entitled, “West Meets East: The Story of Choral Music in Singapore”), 2013 Interkultur Sing n Joy Choral Festival, and the 2014 World Choir Games in Riga, Latvia. A tour chorale chosen from the LMSWC and its alumnae sang at the Musica Eterna Roma Festival in Rome, Italy in July 2016.
The Little Miami Select Mixed Choir
The Little Miami Select Mixed Choir is an auditioned ensemble created in 2007 to give the choral music students the opportunity to perform at a more challenging and competitive level with mixed choir repertoire. The choir began as an extra-curricular activity, but is now in its third year as part of the daily curriculum. Since its beginning, the select mixed choir has received superior ratings in district and state adjudicated events, and also travels with the Select Women’s Chorale to perform for local and regional events.
Members of the select mixed choir (affectionately nicknamed SMX – pronounced “smacks”) have performed in choral festivals and clinics at The Ohio State University, the University of Pittsburgh, Northwestern University, State University of New York, Belmont University and University of Louisville.
