On September 16, 2017, The Little Miami Women’s Select Chorale was one of four choirs invited to participate in the Xavier University Women’s Chorus Invitational. It was a fantastic fun-filled musical day in the Gallagher Auditorium.
185 girls were total in attendance from The Cincinnati Girl Choir, Oak Hills High School Lady Scots, Mason High School Bel Canto, Little Miami Select Women’s Chorale and the Xavier University Women’s Chorus.
Robyn Lana, the director of the Xavier University Women’s Chorus worked with all choirs for several hours during the day on the pieces they would sing in the performance that evening.
Everyone participating was given a break to tour the Xavier University campus and a few of the Xavier girls were assigned to each group as a guide. We took a few minutes to sneak into the Xavier University Basketball Court and sing.
We also took some time for some group photos on the steps.
After our tour and a little social time, we headed back to the Gallagher Auditorium and had our rehearsal as an individual group and combined with the 4 other choirs.
Once that was over, we headed off to the cafeteria for a nice meal before heading back for our performance.
All 5 choirs were seated in the auditorium when the seats started filling up fast. Thanks to all the Little Miami Select Women’s Chorale parents for coming to support us, it means a lot! It was standing room only by the time the first choir took the stage.
The first performance was the Cincinnati Girls Choir, from the Cincinnati Children’s Choir. They are the Ensemble-in-Residence at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.
Next up was the Oak Hills High School Lady Scots.
The Mason High School Bel Canto was third to take the stage.
Then it was our turn to take the stage. We performed 2 beautiful songs, Now is the Cool of the Day (arr. Moira Smiley) and Scarborough Fair (arr. Laura Marie Hildebrandt).
Mrs. Baker really knows how to pull the best out of these girls.
After we left the stage, the Xavier University Women’s Chorus took the stage.
For the final performance of the night, all choirs were invited to the stage and sang a few pieces together. There were 185 girls singing and they all couldn’t fit on the stage, so it was surround sound for the audience.
They sang three songs as a combined choir and one of them they learned that day without even seeing the music.
After the performance we headed back to our bus but Mrs. Baker and our Financial Manager, Susan Brose stopped to thank Robyn Lana again for inviting us to be included in this wonderful fun-filled day of music. Our girls really had a good time and learned a lot on this trip.
